É possivel o maior lixão do mundo virar espaço para a humanidade viver?

Imagine juntar todo o plástico que hoje está flutuando sobre as águas do Giro Pacífico Norte (região oceânica que é considerada o maior depósito de lixo do planeta) e usar esses resíduos para construir uma ilha sustentável com as mesmas proporções territoriais de uma cidade como Manaus. Parece loucura? Não para os arquitetos do Whim Arctects, da Holanda, que colocaram a ideia no papel ao pensar na Ilha da reciclagem.

O objetivo é formar um território insular flutuante onde existam casas, comércio, lazer e plantações. "Queremos propor um habitat confortável, mas que não precise depender (tanto) de recursos oferecidos por outros países", diz Ramon Knoester, um dos criadores da ideia, que está em estudos para ser viabilizada. Por enquanto, não passa de uma ilha imaginária cuja matéria-prima continua a boiar e poluir nossos mares.

The objective is to form an insular, floating territory where there are houses, shops, leisure options and plantations. "We want to offer a comfortable habitat, but that does not depend (that much) on resources offered by other countries", says Ramon Knoester, one of the creators of the idea, which is being studied to become feasible. For now it is just an imaginary island whose raw material continues floating and polluting our oceans.
